The Post-America Variety Show is a devised show I have created with the students of Texas A&M University that will open on November 20th! The year is 2055, and in post-apocalyptic College Station, people have finally come out of hiding and formed a community again. But where’s the fun? That’s why the younger generation has createda secret variety show featuring singing, dancing, original music, comedy sketches, and the finest black market items available this side of what’s left of the Rio Grande. This monograph argues that implementing devised theatre as a learning praxis has a unique potential to cultivate student agency in the twenty-first century classroom. I published my first academic book chapter! Routledge’s “Embodied Playwriting: Improv and Acting Exercises for Writing and Devising” is out today; my chapter focuses on collaborative worldbuilding exercises. I think the book provides some pretty cool outside-of-the-box approaches to playwriting.
